Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Mesut Ozil is similar to Dennis Bergkamp in the dressing room.

The German playmaker has been in stunning form for the Gunners this season with 16 assists to date in the Premier League in just 20 games.

Ozil is a quiet figure who rarely speaks out in the media and leads by example on the pitch, but Arsenal are clearly benefitting from his strongest season since he joined the club in 2013.

Wenger has previously compared Ozil to club legend Bergkamp in the way he operates in the number-10 role on the pitch.

But the manager says the similarities between the two players also extends to the dressing room.

“Ozil has a big influence,” Wenger said.

“He is not an extrovert as you know but you do not win by coincidence and he has won in his career. He is demanding from his team-mates.

“He reminds me of Bergkamp, he is a bit like that. He’s not the guy who stands up and speaks too much but every time he says something it is straight to the point.”
