Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Alexis Sanchez could return to the squad to face Chelsea on Sunday, while Mesut Ozil will be fit to start.

Sanchez has been out of action since November with a calf injury he picked up against Norwich at Carrow Road.

The Chilean forward was expected to be back at the start of January but he suffered a setback and is still yet to feature in a matchday squad this year.

He is now nearing a return, however, and Wenger says he could play in the Chelsea game, along with fit-again Mesut Ozil who misses last weekend’s visit to Stoke with a toe injury.

“Compared to last week we have no big problems,” Wenger said. “The good news is Ozil will certainly be available and for Sanchez the next two days will be decisive. This time I think he will make it and be available.”

Wenger also provided an update on long-term absentees Danny Welbeck, Francis Coquelin and Tomas Rosicky.

“Coquelin is back in training today, he is ahead of schedule,” the manager said.

“Welbeck will be back next week. Rosicky will play tomorrow night with the under-21s.”
