Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club will be signing Nigerian youngsters Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze this month.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a double-move for the pair after they impressed scouts at the Under-17 World Cup.

Nwakali was named the player of the tournament and the dynamic central midfielder was immediately identified as a potential target by the Gunners’ scouts.

Reports this week have suggested that both players are on the verge of joining Arsenal and Nwakali has recently spoken out confirming the move.

Arsenal manager Wenger, who is usually tight-lipped on transfers until they are all but completed, has now given an update on the deal.

“Talks are progressing well,” Wenger said. “It should be done this month.

“There are work permit issues, medical issues as they have to both have medicals but it is progressing well.

“We identified Nwakali as the player of the tournament [at the Under-17 World Cup]. He is a top player and we’ll try to get it over the line.”
