Liverpool have officially signed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal for £35 million with wages of £120,000 per week.

The 24-year-old who has been the subject of intense transfer speculation signed for Jurgen Klopp’s Anfield outfit for a fee believed to be in the region of £35 million.

Despite bright performances at wing-back for Arsenal after they switched to a back three at Middlesbrough in April as the club ended the season with the FA Cup, but it is understood he was told by Arsene Wenger there was no guaranteed place for him at the club and that they would welcome offers for him.

However, the policy changed unexpectedly at the start of August after the long-serving Frenchman changed tack and declared publicly he wanted to keep the player.

Yet, it was too late for the player who became increasingly disillusioned after initially learning he wasn’t wanted.

He rejected a move to Chelsea, after Arsenal accepted a £40m bid from the West Londoners earlier this week, but by then the former Southampton man had his heart set on joining Liverpool.

Sources close to the player also added another reason for him wanting to leave Arsenal was to move from the right-wing back position to a more central position – and turned down the Blues as he believed Chelsea Antonio Conte would also play him in his unfavoured position out on the right.

The move will also net his former team more than £2m as Saints cannily inserted a sell-on percentage clause in his contract when he left the South Coast for North London in 2011.

The Portsmouth-born 24-year-old who signed for Arsenal in 2011, scoring nine league goals in six full seasons at the club, is convinced Jurgen Klopp will play him in his favoured position and is holding out for a move.

However, the long-term situation is complicated by the fact Liverpool have just broken their transfer record for a second time in two months by splashing out £48m and an undisclosed premium Naby Keita from RB Leipzig who will arrive next summer.

Yet despite the possibility, the lure of Merseyside proved too strong for the England international capped 27 times, with the player making his last appearance for Arsenal in the 4-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
