‘They deserved to win. It’s frustrating but it’s the truth’ says Frenchman

Arsene Wenger admitted that Swansea were deserved winners at the Emirates after Michu’s late double strike condemned the Gunners to defeat and saw them slip down to 10th in the Premier League table.

“They deserved to win. It is frustrating but it is the truth,” said Wenger. “We were not good, laboured, not creative. We were not sharp. Swansea were sharper, more creative and we had a lot of possession without really going anywhere.

“We took a lot of risks and in the end it went against us. Maybe we should have taken the 0-0, but we lacked decisiveness and quality.”

And Wenger admitted that it was Arsenal’s home form that was worrying him the most, with the side failing to find any fluency at the Emirates so far this season and losing two and drawing two of their seven Premier League games so far in N5.

“At the moment it looks like away from home we are quite consistent and our results are positive but at home we haven’t produced the expected performances and we have to find the solution. I’m not worried about the place [in the table] but what it is important is that we get the quality of our game back.

“We have many players on the edge. We have played a lot of hard games recently, we just had two difficult away games. But today we are guilty of losing a game we shouldn’t have lost.

“I can understand the fans [frustration]. We are in this job to turn it round and I am confident we will. It’s a good moment to stick together.”

Wenger indicated he would be resting players for Tuesday’s trip to Athens for the Champions League final group game against Olympiakos. Arsenal have already qualified but need to win to have any chance of taking top spot in Group B ahead of German side Schalke.
