With the January transfer window upon us, ‘silly season’ is sure to bring up some interesting rumours – but who is Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reportedly looking to bring in?

Reports in Spain suggest Lucas Vazquez could be interesting Wenger after Weekly Spanish sport magazine Don Balon have reported the Real Madrid attacker is on Arsenal’s radar.

The 26-year-old has made just five La Liga starts this season, scoring once, with the Gunners hopeful the promise of more game time could tempt him from the Spanish capital to London.

Another Spanish winger who could be on Arsenal’s wishlist is Jose Arnaiz, who plays for Real’s bitter rivals Barcelona.

The 22-year-old who started at Talavera, moving to Valladolid before onto the Nou Camp, scored as Barca drew 1-1 with Celta Vigo in the Copa del Rey round of 16 on Thursday night.

Madrid based newspaper Marca have reported interest from North London in the diminutive winger.

Arnaiz has a £17.7m release clause in his contract – and could be a price worth paying.

It’s clear Arsenal need to strengthen defensively.

Bundesliga centre-back. Borussia Monchengladbach’s Jannik Vestergaard could fit the bill. The 25-year-old is reportedly a target for the Gunners but is also on the radar of Tottenham and Inter Milan, according to Italian football website Transfermarketweb.

The Danish international has impressed for Gladbach this season and could be available for as little as £15m.

However, one player who will definitely not be making an appearance at the Emirates is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Just 24 hours after potential interest in the Borussia Dortmund striker was reported, Wenger has shut down the rumours.

Speaking during his Friday morning press conference, the Gunners boss said it is “not a possibility” the Gabon international could arrive this month.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
