Arsenal got their FA Cup defence underway with a 3-1 win over Sunderland. Here’s how we rated the Gunners.
Petr Cech 6
Could do nothing about Lens’s goal and was otherwise solid between the sticks.
Kieran Gibbs 6
His hospital pass to Koscielny lead to the Sunderland goal. That aside, he played well.
Picked up a knock in the first half but carried on and was solid at the back. Rarely troubled.
Laurent Koscielny 5
Should have cleared his lines when pressured by Lens and he paid for his mistake with a Sunderland goal.
Hector Bellerin 8
Two assists in the second half from two trademark overlapping runs. Another fine performance.
Calum Chambers 6
Did a decent job of shielding the back four despite being overrun at times as the side bombed forward.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 7
Plenty of energy in midfield and so unlucky not to score when his curling strike hit the post.
Alex Iwobi 7
Drove forward at every opportunity in the first half and looked lively. Big prospect.
Joel Campbell 8
Finished coolly with his left foot to level the score at 1-1 and played a great ball in the build-up to Ramsey’s goal. Looking confident.
Theo Walcott 6
Popped up with a nice assist as his low cross found Campbell in the box. Didn’t do much else.
Olivier Giroud 7
Quiet display from the Frenchman but he got on the scoresheet yet again to make it 3-1.
Aaron Ramsey 8
Came on and instantly gave Arsenal a boost in midfield. Scored the crucial goal to make it 2-1 in a top substitute performance.
Mikel Arteta 6
Brought a calming presence to the midfield. Good to see him back.
Jeff Reine-Adelaide 6
Got a big cheer from the home fans when he came on. Barely touched it.
