Reiss Nelson made 16 senior appearances in all competitions last term with many hoping he can kick-on this season to add consistency to his undoubted talent which makes him the most exciting prospect to ‘graduate’ from the club’s Hale End academy since arguably, Jack Wilshere.

It has been a good week for the 18-year-old Elephant and Castle-born attacker with a sublime strike against Brighton U23s at the Emirates on Monday evening, while he showed his battling qualities in torrential rain in a tough match against West Ham U23s at the London Stadium on Friday evening to help his side to a 3-2 victory.

At the interview process in the hunt to replace the long-serving Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery made a commitment to developing Arsenal’s young players, an affimation which helped land him the Gunners job.

In response to a question from the Islington Gazette about the talented Nelson the Arsenal head coach shared his views on the England U19 player, saying: “He is working with us each training session.

“At the moment he is continuing playing with the under-23s, but he is near us and also he needs to continue this progress in training session, pushing in every training, concentrated so that when the chances arrive in the first team that he can do one match.

“But at the moment, he played Monday with the under-23s and that’s good for him and for him to continue to show his performance for us.”
