The Gunners landed £56 million new signing Pierre Emerick Aubameyang after the 28-year-old signed for the North London giants from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund on the final day of the window on Wednesday.

Shortly afterwards it was announced Mesut Ozil ended months of speculation by putting pen to paper on a three and a half year deal.

The 29-year-old German playmaker becomes the club’s highest paid player on £350,000 a week in a new improved contract which will keep him at the Gunners until the summer of 2021.

The former Real Madrid has been free to speak with other clubs from January 1 but after months of detailed and in-depth negotiations the German agreed to stay with Arsene Wenger’s side.

Supporters could be in for a treat on Saturday when Everton visit the Emirates as Aubameyang is set to be included in Wenger’s squad for the 5.30pm clash against the Toffees.

The Gabon international signed a three year deal at the Emirates for a fee believed to be in the region of £56 million.

BVB sporting director Michael Zorc said after the deal was confirmed: “Apart from the unpleasant events of recent weeks, we like to remember that the story of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at BVB for more than four years was a single success story.”

The fee makes Aubameyang the clubs most expensive player ever, eclipsing the £52m paid for Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon last summer.

Aubameyang was prolific in his four-and-a-half year spell in German, scoring 141 goals in 212 appearances for BVB, including 40 goals in just 46 appearances last season.

The 28-year-old will link up with former Dortmund team mate Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the Emirates, who signed for the Gunners from Manchester United earlier in the window – who is also set to appear at the Emirates for the first time after making his debut in the 3-1 defeat at Swansea City on Tuesday.

Although Aubameyang is yet to pull on an Arsenal shirt his record against Tottenham Hotspur should already endear him to the Gunners faithful.

In four games for Dortmund against Spurs, the Gabonese striker has netted four goals, including a brace at White Hart Lane in the Europa League back in 2016.

Arsenal’s new head of recruitment and former Dortmund chief scout, Sven Mislintat, is believed to have played a key role in securing Aubameyang’s signature.
