Adam Wilson has hailed the togetherness and unity in the Brondesbury squad, insisting it went a long way towards them securing promotion to the Middlesex County League Premier Division.

Bron secured second spot on a dramatic final day as they beat Enfield on run-rate in a rain-affected match, while nearest rivals Barnes – who were nine points clear ahead of the final day – lost another reduced game against Harrow St Mary’s by four runs.

And skipper Wilson was understandably delighted after seeing Bron seal a place back in the top division, and is quietly confident they can build on their recent success next term.

He told the Times: “It’s been an amazing league to be part of this season – I’m very proud of this squad.

“There’s been no game where you can turn up knowing that you’ll bag 10 points.

“As a team, I think that we’ve shown flashes of what we’re capable of – and that’s something that we’ll have to do a lot more of next season if we’re going to compete at the highest level.

“That said we beat a number of top division outfits in our cup runs this season, so we can take a lot of confidence from that.

“Our team spirit and togetherness is what has got us over the line on a few occasions, and it’s really important that we keep building that in the future.

“There will certainly be the need to add to the squad and strengthen it – but that would have been the case regardless of whether we got promoted or not.

“I think that Eastcote being relegated demonstrates the fact that you need to continue to build as you move up to the Premier Division – as there is obviously a big step up, which we’re all aware of.

“This squad deserves the opportunity to go and show what they’re capable of in the Premier Division as they’re the ones who got us there in the first place, but there are certainly a few areas where I would like to strengthen.

“It will be a real challenge for us, but as a young squad, that’s what we want in order to learn, develop and have Brondesbury become a Premier Division winning club once more – as ultimately that’s what we’re aspiring to be.”

Hosts Enfield won the toss and decided to bat, but were dismissed for 238 with Glenn Phillips taking 4-53.

Phillips proved as prolific with the bat, hitting 108 as Bron reached 142-1 from 20.2 overs – putting them well ahead on run-rate when rain ended the match.

Wilson was full of praise for overseas recruit Phillips, who is set to leave the club this summer, admitting the club have a tough task to replace him.

He added: “Glenn Phillips has been an absolute star for us this season, and we are going to have a big job replacing him, that’s for sure.

“We’ll be looking for an overseas who brings something to the club off the pitch, as well as on it – exactly how Glenn has.”

In other positive news, the club are set to receive a huge boost with work set to get underway at Harman Drive.

“The ground is about to receive £100,000 worth of work in the next couple of weeks – including new nets, additional pitches and a whole host of other work, too,” revealed Wilson.

“This will make it an even better ground for us, the local area and all those teams who visit in 2017 and beyond. We will continue to work with the local community for events like Cricket Force and ultimately, ensure that we carry the club on the path that we have forged over the last two years.

“Our merger with Primrose Hill, which has already resulted in colt cricketers in our senior sides, has been a huge success.

“The first and second XI have won promotion; the third XI have maintained their position with a young squad and the fourth have done a fantastic job of moving colts into the senior section.

“It is a very exciting period for the club, one that I am very proud to be associated with.”
