Sahil Kher hit a rapid century as South Hampstead romped to a convincing victory over Kenton in Division Three of the Middlesex County Cricket League.

Overseas star Kher struck 108 off 109 balls to lead SH to a declaration at 241-9, and Touqeer Ahmad then took 4-34 with the ball as Kenton were dismissed for 86 in reply.

South Hampstead captain James Williams won the toss on his home ground at Milverton Road and elected to bat – a decision which was well rewarded.

Openers Leroy Shepherd and Karthik Jagannathian made 30 together and, when Shepherd departed for 20, Kher came to the crease and added 57 alongside Jagannathian.

The latter was caught on 35 but Nish Patel (12), Paul Atherley (18) and Fahad Ahmed helped Kher in turn as he passed his ton and reached 108 – a knock that included 13 fours and a six.

Kher was eventually caught by Charles Erdwin off the bowling of Jonathan Mills (4-97) but by then SH were in a commanding position at 211-5.

With the overs running out, the home side could afford to take risks, and Avnish Patel went for two, while Ahmed departed after striking a quickfire 33 off 19 balls – including two sixes and two fours.

The next two batsmen, Majid Akram (1) and Umar Asif (1), were both run out and Williams (4 not out) elected to declare at the end of the 50th over after setting a sizeable target of 241.

Kenton made a decent start to their reply, reaching 25 without loss, but a flurry of wickets then fell as Ahmad (4-34) and Asif (2-21) demolished the top order.

Schophn Jooma (22) was joined back in the pavilion by his fellow opener Viran Parmar (4), and when Ashish Karia (8), Kalpesh Keria (2) and Bhavesh Tapariya (0) failed to stop the rot, Kenton were in desperate trouble at 39-5.

Mohammed Shafiq (20) and Kanti Vaghtiani (12) dug in and added 26 together, but Patel (2-8) dismissed the former while Akram (2-11) had the latter caught and promptly bowled his replacement, Owen O’Neill-Khaled, for a duck.

Kenton were now 74-7, and Patel ended the resistance from Mohammad (20) before Williams took two catches to remove the last two men, Mills (6) and Erdwin (0).
