Hornsey were rolled over for a total of just 58 as they were defeated in a low-scoring game at Brondesbury in the Premier Division of the Middlesex County Cricket League.

Although they skittled their hosts for 117, Hornsey fared far worse in reply, with only last man Ollie Yew reaching double figures as his side were bowled out in the 35th over.

The visitors lost the toss and were asked to field, but gained early success as Martin Tucker (3-32) and Ed Wharton (1-13) accounted for opening pair Hugh Gimber (1) and James Overy (9).

However, Chris Blake (26) and Simon Butler (36) settled Brondesbury’s nerves, adding 39 before Blake was caught off the bowling of Hornsey skipper Michael Philipson.

Butler added another 33 in partnership with Jordan Bethel (7), moving the score up to 83-3 before the latter was caught behind off Tucker – and the home side’s top scorer immediately followed.

Wickets continued to fall regularly as Philipson (4-46) and Sandeep Singh (2-10) found their rhythm with the ball.

Jamie Odell (13) was the only one of the last seven batsmen who reached double figures as the Brondesbury innings came to a rapid end after 37.3 overs.

That looked a very gettable target, but it proved to be a winning score as Brondesbury’s bowlers ensured their visitors never got within sight.

Tom Kopelman (1-11) snared Richard Wharton (5) and Odell (4-17) had the visitors’ other opener, James Bull, caught for a duck before repeating the feat with his replacement Philipson (4) to make it 12-3.

Garfield Struthers (4) was run out by Blake and Fosbraey (1-8) trapped Chetan Patel (8) leg before at 35-5.

That became 43-8 as Palash Joshi (3-14) struck three times in quick succession, and Odell then returned to remove Ed Wharton (3).

Yew became the only Hornsey batsman to reach double figures but he was stranded on 11 not out as the visitors fell well short.
