Hampstead celebrate after winning the Middlesex County Cricket League title for the first time.

Hampstead are celebrating a momentous weekend in their history after winning the Middlesex County League title for the first time ever.

The Lymington Road club won away at Teddington, triumphing by six wickets, to ensure that they would finish top of the Premier Division regardless of results on the final day of the season on Saturday.

The chairman of Hampstead’s playing committee, Nick Brown, said: “This means so much to everyone at the club.

“The chairman Jim Carter, myself and all of the club committee have worked hard to put the infrastructure in place to create the right environment for success both on and off the field.

“We have been terrific off the field for a few years and now we have delivered on the field.

“We have had a lot of congratulatory messages from across the league. I don’t think anyone begrudges us the title – we have been the best team this season and have endured significant injuries to our best players, so the title is deservedly coming to Lymington Road for the first time.

“Steve Clark has done a tremendous job in captaining the team. He integrated all of the new players with the existing ones and created a really cohesive unit – something that hasn’t always been the case here. He should be very proud.”

Graham Clark hit a century in Saturday’s climactic victory over Teddington and Brown added: “Graham has been brilliant both on and off the field this season. We are indebted to Mark Alleyne for his recommendation from the MCC Young Cricketers and we hope that Graham gets a professional contract with Durham next season. That said, we would also be delighted to have him back at Hampstead.

“We expect most of our players to be back next season and I am already speaking to potential new recruits. It is a great feeling to be winning and we want more of it, so there will be no complacency.”
