North Midds captain wants to add to Middlesex County League T20 title, and admits there’s even talk of a treble

North Middlesex skipper Tom Nicoll says a county cup double is the very least his team are targeting this season.

Having already wrapped up the Middlesex County League T20 title, North Midds play their Middlesex KO Cup quarter-final at home to Stanmore on Sunday.

Before that on Saturday, North Midds entertain Richmond in the Middlesex Premier League, with the hosts heading into the weekend third, just 22 points of leaders Ealing.

Nicoll admits he still harbours hopes that North Midds could secure a splendid treble this term, and wants a double at the very least.

“We’ve already won the Middlesex T20, so the aim for us in the Middlesex Cup is to win that too,” said Nicoll.

“We still feel there are enough games remaining in the Premier League to win that as well, and if we were able to win the treble, it would be an absolute dream.”

Having won the Middlesex T20 title in July, North Midds headed to Wanstead last weekend for the National Club T20 Group Seven Area final.

North Midds won through from their semi-final to play the hosts, but were beaten by six wickets in the final against Wanstead.

And Nicoll admits there was a slight feeling of what might have been, with North Midds not performing as well as they could have in the final.

“Wanstead are a very good side, but home advantage helped them a little. It made it hard for us, but we didn’t play our best,” he added.

“We lost early wickets, and though Luke Hollman, Will Nicol and Ethan Bamber helped us rebuild, we knew the score was a little below par, though it was something for us to defend.

“We dropped a couple of catches and Feroze Khushi played well for Wanstead, but it was just a shame we were unable to win.”

In the semi-final, North Midds had beaten Cambridge Granta by nine wickets thanks to a unbeaten 74 from Joe Cracknell, who won praise for his efforts from skipper Nicoll.

“Joe was outstanding with the bat against Cambridge and was brilliant in his innings,” he said.
