Harman Drive side lost by 34 runs, despite Sam Smith taking 7-67

Brondesbury captain James Overy was disappointed his side could not follow up a strong bowling display with the bat in a 34-run defeat at home to Ealing in the Middlesex County Premier Division.

The Harman Drive side made good on their decision to bowl first after winning the toss and dismissed the visitors for 134.

That was in part down to a brilliant spell of bowling from Sam Smith, who recorded figures of 7-67.

In reply, though, a knock of 21 from Alistair Wilkinson batting at number 10 was the top score for Brondesbury as they were all out for 100.

The defeat saw the Harman Drive outfit slump to the bottom of the table, and Overy was gutted his side could not make the most of dismissing title-chasing Ealing for such a low total.

“To bowl a team like Ealing out for around 130, we would have backed ourselves to win,” he said.

“We made a decent start in reply, but we just lost wickets at too regular an interval which checked our progress.

“You need partnerships in any chase and it was disappointing we didn’t seem to get any going.”
