Harman Drive outfit welcome Ealing in league on Saturday

Brondesbury skipper James Overy admits the battle to stay up in the Middlesex County Premier Division is down to three teams ahead of hosting title-chasing Ealing on Saturday.

The Harman Drive outfit sit ninth in the table, seven points clear of bottom-club Highgate and 11 back from Twickenham in eighth.

All three will be battling hard over the final six games of the season to collect enough points to finish outside of the bottom two.

And Overy remains confident Brondesbury have the quality to drag themselves out of the relegation zone before the season is out.

“It’s down to three teams now in the relegation battle, but we have to play both Twickenham and Highgate before the season is over so it’s still in our hands,” said Overy.

“If we play to our potential, then I have every faith we can stay up and avoid relegation.

“There is still a long way to go with plenty of cricket still to be played, so a lot can change over the next few weeks.

“Where we finish the season is where we deserve to be and hopefully that is in eighth place.”

Brondesbury face Ealing off the back of an eight-wicket defeat at Hampstead last Saturday.

Overy chose to bat after winning the toss, but saw his team dismissed for just 129 inside 32 overs.

The skipper opened the innings and carried his bat on his way to a top score of 48, but says he was gutted to see his colleagues falter at the other end.

“It was frustrating to watch the wickets go down as I felt it wasn’t a bad deck to bat on,” he added.

“We could have applied ourselves a little better with the bat, which would have helped us get a better score.

“I felt that with the wicket being flat, we needed a score of around 280 and Hampstead were professional in the way they chased it down.”

As well as welcoming Ealing this weekend, Saturday sees Brondesbury host their Ladies Day event.

For just £10, there will be plenty of fizz and food on offer for the women in attendance, and Brondesbury will hope to treat them to a good game as well.
