Harman Drive team won by 36 runs at home on Saturday

Brondesbury skipper James Overy was delighted his team kept alive their chances of avoiding relegation from the Middlesex County Premier Division by beating Finchley by 36 runs.

Electing to bat first, the Harman Drive outfit were all out for 179 with Joe Moore’s 42 the top score for the hosts.

With the ball, Adam Wilson (3-23) and Alistair Wilkinson (3-27) both impressed as Finchley were dismissed for 143 in reply.

Victory saw Brondesbury move to within six points of Twickenham who represent safety ahead of Saturday’s meeting between the sides.

And Overy was pleased the Harman Drive outfit ensured there is all to play for heading into that game.

“Saturday was a brilliant day for the club,” said Overy.

“We said a couple of weeks backs that we needed to beat both Highgate and Finchley and it’s brilliant that we’ve done that.

“Against Finchley, I thought 180 was perhaps below par, but it just goes to show how well our bowlers did to get us what was a fairly comfortable win in the end.

“Joe batted well after struggling for runs recently and it was an innings that showed character, and we bowled really well.”
