Former Haringey amateur Nicola Adams needed only one round to extend her winning start to life as a professional to four bouts.

Against Soledad del Valle Frias of Argentina in her hometown of Leeds, the super flyweight came out firing, slamming effective shots to the head and body.

Towards the end of the first round, the two-time Olympic champion unleashed a left hook to Frias’ body, which led to the Argentine being counted out.

There was some controversy, though, with the stoppage coming after two minutes and 47 seconds, despite the rounds being scheduled to lasting just two minutes.

Adams hopes the win at Elland Road on Saturday helps her in her quest to challenge for world titles.

Former Finchley amateur Mo Gharib won all four rounds of his bout against Aleksandrs Birkenbergs at York Hall on Saturday.

Referee Chas Coakley scored the bout 40-36 in favour of the British lightweight.
