The latest news from the local boxing scene

Former Finchley amateur Anthony Joshua defends his IBF and WBA world heavyweight titles against WBO champion Joshua Parker in Cardiff on Saturday.

The two heavyweight rivals meet at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh city over the East weekend.

The venue in Cardiff also saw Joshua’s last fight in October, when the 28-year-old stopped durable Frenchman Carlos Takam in the 10th round.

At 26, Parker is younger than Joshua, but has shown he is a good boxer with a solid chin.

The New Zealander’s last fight was also in Britain last September when he beat Hughie Fury, cousin of former world champion Tyson, in Manchester.

Despite being unbeaten in 24 fights as a pro, questions remain over whether Parker can deal with the power of Joshua, who is taller and will be heavier on the night.

Joshua has notched 20 consecutive wins as a pro, with all coming by way of knockout, while Parker has been taken the distance in each of his last three bouts.

The former Finchley amateur will hope to earn another win on Saturday as he chases a unification fight with WBC champion Deontay Wilder.

• Finchley heavyweight Dereck Chisora stopped France’s Zakaria Azzouzi inside two rounds at The O2 in London on Saturday.

The man known as ‘Del Boy’ floored his rival in the second round with a powerful right hook to Azzouzi’s head, forcing referee Robert Williams to intervene and end the fight.

• There were wins for White Hart Lane ABC boxers at the London Elite Championship semi-finals last weekend.

The semis were held at the Tottenham Community Centre and saw some of the best amateur talents from the capital compete.

In the 91kg category, Sherif Musah won on a unanimous decision against Tomiwa Magbagbeola of Fisher.

Super heavyweight Jeamie Tshikeva also won on a unanimous decision, beating Edmonton Eagles rival Gideon Antwi.

The finals take place at the Royal National Hotel in Russell Square at 7.30pm on Thursday.
