Former Finchley ABC man Anthony Joshua retained his WBA and IBF world heavyweight titles by beating Carlos Takam of France before a sell-out crowd at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Saturday.

Joshua had to survive a suspected broken nose caused by a Takam headbutt in the second round.

In round four, a left jab by Joshua opened a huge cover over Takam’s right eye, giving the Frenchman problems seeing out of until the end came in the 10th round.

Joshua unleashed a barraged of punches, mostly to Takam’s head, which forced referee Phil Edwards to call the fight off one minutes and 34 seconds into the round.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is lining up three fights in 2018 for the 28-year-old, including a possible unification with either Joseph Parker or Deontay Wilder.

• Finchley heavyweight Dereck Chisora will fight Agit Kabayel for the German’s European title in Monaco on Saturday, hoping a win will take the 33-year-old back into world title contention
