Cyclist had plenty to celebrate in Derbyshire last weekend

Belsize Park cyclist Justin McKie had something to celebrate after retaining his League of Veteran Racing Cyclists (LVRC) National Championship title.

McKie headed north to the event, which was held at the Derby Velodrome last weekend.

The championships see competitors race in various disciplines, with the best overall rider in each age category receiving the coveted national jersey.

McKie, who races for Torq Performance Cycling, won three of the races in his age category and finished third in another.

The final event was the scratch race which resulted in a thrilling finish after 15km of racing.

McKie was able to win, but only by a bike length from second place as he retained his national title in style.

“The LVRC National Championship is one of the highlights of the UK amateur racing calendar, so I was delighted to come away with the overall title again,” said McKie.

Earlier this year, McKie finished fifth at the ICF Masters World Cycling Champsionship in Belgium.
