Camden Conservative campaigners received a boost when they were visited by Theresa May’s husband earlier this week.

Philip May visited phone bankers at the Camden campaign headquarters on Heath Hurst Road on Tuesday night.

He joined volunteers in calling up residents and seeing how they are planning to vote, ahead of polling day.

Oliver Cooper, who is standing to regain his Hampstead Town seat on Camden Council said the visit was part of Mr May supporting the party’s election efforts across the country.

“What he’s doing is going around constituencies around the country and helping get more people involved in campaigning.

“When he walked in the first thing he said was ‘this is a real Conservative office.’”

“He’s very political himself and has campaigned for the party before, he said his first time he’d gone canvassing was for the October 1974 election.”

Theresa May previously visited Hampstead and Kilburn Conservative Association in 2016, on the same day she launched her successful bid to become Prime Minister.
