Labour group leader Cllr Claire Kober says she will not settle for mediocrity - and welcomes scrutiny from both the Lib Dems and her fellow party members over the next four years.

It is a great privilege and an honour to be re-elected as both a Haringey councillor and the leader of the council.

I am extremely proud of our success in these elections and know that it is a testament to everything we have achieved as a Labour council and the many months of hard work and dedication from our local members and candidates – speaking to residents, standing up for what they believe and fighting for every vote cast.

The local love affair with the Lib Dems is over and residents from every corner of the borough have sent a clear message that they want change.

The coming four years promise to be both exciting and extremely challenging. The ongoing government cuts will undoubtedly mean difficult choices for the council, but we will continue to work for greater equality for all our residents and build on our enduring vision for one borough.

We already have a strong foundation with some of the best schools, streets and parks in London, but we are committed to going even further over the next four years.

I am uncompromising in my ambition for Haringey. I won’t settle for mediocrity.

I want the borough to be a byword for successful, harmonious communities, high-quality public services and authentic regeneration rooted in people and opportunities.

At the heart of everything I do as council leader is a commitment to embrace diversity, which is one of our greatest assets as a borough, and tackle inequality.

Despite gaining such a large Labour majority, we will not rest on our laurels. I welcome the scrutiny of both my fellow Labour members and those within our opposition to ensure that we always strive to deliver the best services to all the residents of Haringey.
