COMMENT: ‘We know residents will look to the Lib Dems to hold the Labour council to account’

Lib Dem councillor David Beacham promises his party will continue to provide a strong opposition, despite their vastly reduced numbers.
We expected the local elections to be a very difficult fight and it was. In many parts of London the Liberal Democrats did not get the results we had hoped for against Labour, however results in other parts of the country show that the Lib Dems can still beat Labour and gain council seats.
Despite some very good councillors losing their seats, we still have nine excellent Lib Dem councillors elected across five wards and a Lib Dem MP.
We will work amazingly hard to represent our residents and to challenge and scrutinise the Labour administration.
With no Tory or Green councillors the Lib Dems remain the only opposition to Labour in Haringey.
We know residents will look to the Lib Dems to hold the Labour council to account. We promise that we will continue to scrutinise Labour and the decisions they make on behalf of residents.
We know from the past 16 years that there is so much the Lib Dems can achieve for residents in opposition. We forced Labour to build the first new council homes in 25 years and freeze council tax.
We will continue to campaign on issues that matter and put forward our vision for the borough.
The Lib Dems will fight hard at the general election and over the next four years to win more seats at the local elections in 2018.
In the meantime, we will continue to work for residents and hold Labour to account.
