Camden Council leader Sarah Hayward has delegated portfolios to her new-look cabinet team - including three new faces - for the next four years.

Last week, Camden Labour’s 40 councillors voted to re-elect six sitting cabinet members to the new cabinet at the group’s AGM.

Kentish Town councillor Georgia Gould, Highgate councillor Sally Gimson and outgoing mayor Cllr Jonathan Simpson have all been promoted from the backbenches.

It follows the departure of former cabinet members Tulip Siddiq, who has stepped down as a Regent’s Park councillor, and Valerie Leach who lost her re-election fight in Highgate last month.

Former council leader Nash Ali was the only councillor standing for re-election to the cabinet who was left disappointed at the AGM vote last week.

On Monday, Cllr Hayward, who will continue in her role as leader and cabinet member for equalities, confirmed the responsibilities for each cabinet member and was pleased to see an equal split between male and female cabinet members.

She said: “I’m absolutely pleased to see a gender-balanced cabinet. This is the fifth year in a row Camden Labour have had a cabinet which is at least 50 per cent women.”

The cabinet will have to be formally approved at the full council meeting on Wednesday (June 11).

Cllr Pat Callaghan will continue her role as cabinet member for adult social care and health, as will Cllr Julian Fulbrook as housing chief.

Cllr Theo Blackwell stays as finance chief but has his portfolio expanded from cabinet member for finance to cabinet member for finance and technology policy.

Cllr Angela Mason continues as cabinet member for children, while Cllr Gould takes over Cllr Ali as cabinet member for young people.

Cllr Simpson is to become cabinet member for community safety, a portfolio vacated by Cllr Abdul Hai who will now take on the new role of cabinet member for customers, communities and culture.

It leaves Cllr Phil Jones as cabinet member for regeneration, transport and planning and Cllr Sally Gimson as cabinet member for sustainability and environment.
