Tim Sherwood remains tight-lipped over his Tottenham future, but he says his time as head coach has been “a baptism of fire” and that he has enjoyed the pressure.

Speculation was rife on Monday that Sherwood will be replaced as head coach at the end of the season.

And, having batted the issue aside when Spurs faced Sunderland at White Hart Lane that evening, he was cagey again at his press conference today, maintaining that it is up to his employers to clarify his position and announce the club’s future plans.

“On Monday it was just about me concentrating on the game and now I’m concentrating on the game tomorrow - those questions are not for me to answer,” he said. “It’s been an honour to manage this great football club and I have enjoyed it. It’s been different and an experience like no other.

“Perversely, I’ve enjoyed the pressure. You hear of a lot of managers saying they could do without the pressure, but I’m not sure I could do without it now.

“I think any day in management is a learning curve. This has been a baptism of fire to be honest, but it’s certainly one that I relish. My family are saying ‘why? Why do you want to do it?’ but it’s in me and it’s something that’s inbred in me.

“Unless you have ever stood in that technical area and had the expectations of the whole football club - not only the 35,000 fans at home and those that travel away, but also the 45,000 on the waiting list at Tottenham and their support around the world - then you don’t know what it’s like to be a manager.

“What’s the worst part of the job? Losing. The continual speculation doesn’t help anyone and I’ve had that from the start, so I’m quite used to that now. Once you guys stop asking who else is coming in next year, then I’ll go and see a doctor.”

Sherwood added: “I’m a winner and I will make myself ill before I don’t succeed. That’s the drive that I’ve always had. I had that as a player and I’ll have that as a manager. I have it in life – if there’s something I want to do then I’m going to do it.”

It was suggested that Sherwood has been offered a return to his old job as Spurs’ technical coordinator, but he said: “I haven’t had a discussion regarding that with anyone at the club.”

It has also been rumoured that Sherwood could be in the running for the Norwich manager’s job following the sacking of ex-Spurs man Chris Hughton.

However, Neil Adams is currently in charge at Carrow Road and Sherwood said: “Enough people have poached for my job while I’ve been here and I think it’s disrespectful, so I wouldn’t at all start doing it for someone else’s job.

“For me, it’s just about worrying about the football matches and hopefully trying to win the next five games for Tottenham.

“We’ve had a good week’s training after a good win over Sunderland and now we go to West Brom looking to play on the front foot.”
