Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas has been very impressed with striker Jermain Defoe after his first 10 games in charge.
The Portuguese boss has backed the England international and has been repaid after Defoe scored six goals in 10 games.
The big difference has been that the 29-year-old has been given regular football, something he was not given under predecessor Harry Redknapp.
“At the moment, we are extremely happy with what [Defoe] is doing. And I am sure that is having an impact on the way he feels about himself.
“He scored so many goals last season from an interrupted sequence of games. He has performed so well for this club and you have to respect the fact he keeps on motivating himself to show that.
“Now he is getting confidence from being given games from the start. He has been excellent.
“His desire and his motivation are there and his movements are fantastic. I think he will continue.
“He has been creating so much and has been immense for the team. We have to be very grateful for what he has been doing for the team. I think he is enjoying every moment of it.”
Saint Etienne forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hinted that he would prefer a move to Borussia Dortmund over Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle.
