Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood revealed that he declined to bring anyone in during the January window because his injury hit squad is returning to full strength.

Spurs allowed Lewis Holtby to move on loan to Fulham, while Jermain Defoe will head to Toronto in February.

But the Lilywhites were boosted by the returns of Paulinho and Jan Vertonghen in the 1-1 draw with Hull yesterday and the former marked his return to action with the equalising goal.

“If we were to add more players on top to the ones we’ve got it’s impossible to train with them. It’s too many,” Sherwood said.

“[Paulinho’s] been out a while now – he’s a top player.

“Vertonghen got better and grew into the game. Younes Kaboul was on the bench. By the time we face Everton we won’t be too far off full strength.”

Given Defoe’s departure there had been suggestions that Tottenham would make a move for a striker during the January window.

But Sherwood is confident that Soldado will return to top form, after enduring a goal drought that has lasted since he scored in the 3-0 win over Stoke on December 29.

“We’re all right for strikers,” Sherwood added. “It’s just a matter of time before Robbie hits the target again and he starts scoring and gets on a run.

“I thought he was all right today. He had a few opportunities, a few volleys which sometimes fly in and sometimes don’t.

“I’m not pushing any pressure on him and he’s not putting any pressure on himself.

“We’ve all been pro footballers and we know it’s like. It doesn’t just happen. You’ve got to keep training hard and working hard.

“I’m sure it’s not the first barren spell he’s had.”
