Spurs start their campaign across London at Selhurst Park on Sunday (1.30pm), facing a Palace side who have returned to the Premier League after an eight-year absence.
Relegated under Iain Dowie in 2005, life has not always been easy for the Eagles in the Championship.
Indeed, the south Londoners went into administration in 2010 and only avoided the drop to League One on the final day.
However, they started strongly last term and, inspired by Wilfried Zaha – who has now joined Manchester United – they were the early leaders in the second tier.
Their manager Dougie Freedman opted to join Bolton in October, being replaced by Ian Holloway, and Palace lost their 14-game unbeaten run – and top spot – at the end of November before ultimately finishing fifth.
They were in poor form heading into the play-offs, but victories over Brighton and then Watford – courtesy of a penalty from 40-year-old Kevin Phillips – secured a place in the Premier League.
THE MANAGER: The lively and ever-quotable Holloway graced the top flight with Blackpool in 2010-11 and has justified his surprising decision to swap the Tangerines for Selhurst Park last year.
ONES TO WATCH: Zaha got all the headlines last season but Yannick Bolasie is another skilful wide player.
Holloway has kept hold of the veteran Phillips, and he has recruited Jerome Thomas from West Brom while also signing the Moroccan forward Marouane Chamakh from Arsenal this week.
RECENT MEETINGS: Palace took four points off Spurs in the top flight in 2004-05, earning a 1-1 draw at the Lane as Andy Johnson cancelled out Jermain Defoe’s opener – and the Eagles won 3-0 at Selhurst Park.
PREDICTION: Tottenham have only won one of their six friendlies – against a poor South China side – and the new boys are still gelling, while Palace have been waiting a long time for their return. We’ll say 1-1.
STAT’S A FACT: Crystal Palace have previously spent four seasons in the Premier League – including its first year in 1992-93 – but they have been relegated in every one of them.
