Aaron Ramsey netted a stunning volley and Carl Jenkinson scored his first goal for Arsenal as the Gunners rounded off their Premier League campaign with an easy victory over relegated Norwich.

Ramsey’s brilliant opener arrived early in the second half when he met Olivier Giroud’s cross with a rasping, diagonal drive that flew into the top corner, leaving Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy with no chance.

It was the talismanic Welshman’s 15th goal of the campaign, and another reminder of what might have been had he avoided injury earlier in the campaign.

Just under 10 minutes later, boyhood Arsenal fan Jenkinson celebrated wildly in front of the travelling fans after poking home his first senior Gunners goal from close range.

There was another rare sight for Arsenal not long afterwards, when midfielder Abou Diaby came off the bench for his first appearance of the campaign to cap an enjoyable afternoon for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Despite having little left to play for and with the FA Cup final against Hull just under a week away, Wenger fielded a strong side, with Per Mertesacker, Wojciech Szczesny and Santi Cazorla the only players rested.

Bacary Sagna replaced Mertesacker at centre-back, with Jenkinson slotting in on the right, and Lukasz Fabianski was given an opportunity to impress in goal ahead of the trip to Wembley.

With the home side’s relegation confirmed earlier this week, the atmosphere around Carrow Road was understandably subdued – with most of the noise coming from the vocal Arsenal contingent in one corner.

There was an end-of-season feel on the pitch too, with Nathan Redmond’s snap-shot the only effort on target as the two sides laboured through the first 20 minutes.

Arsenal gradually began to come to life, however, and John Ruddy made the first of string of saves to deny Lukas Podolski in the 27th minute after the German combined cleverly with Olivier Giroud.

A few minutes later Ruddy came to Norwich’s rescue again when he tipped Giroud’s effort over the bar. It was wasteful finishing form the Frenchman, who had time and space to pick his spot.

Aaron Ramsey was the next Arsenal player to work an opening, but he was denied by a heroic block from Michael Turner just inside the Norwich box.

In the 40th minute, Giroud span away from his marker 25 yards from goal and fired a curling effort towards the top corner which brought another good save from Ruddy.

Norwich were breached just eight minutes into the second half when Ramsey’s stunning volley lit up Carrow Road after a perfectly weighted pass from Giroud.

It was a Marco Van Basten-esque finish from Ramsey, but the Jenkinson eclipsed the midfielder in the celebration stakes as he slid on his knees in front of the Arsenal fans after scoring the second.

Norwich substitute Jamar Loza and Robert Snodgrass both forced saves from Fabianski in the closing stages, but the visitors held on to keep a clean sheet.

Arsenal: Fabianski, Jenkinson, Sagna, Koscielny, Gibbs, Arteta, Rosicky (Diaby 74), Ramsey (Wilshere 63), Ozil, Podolski, Giroud (Sanogo 74). Subs not used: Szczesny, Monreal, Kallstrom, Flamini.
