Fair in the square festival

SUNSHINE lit up Pond Square as hundreds of residents flocked to Highgate’s Fair in the Square on Saturday (June 13).

Organisers dubbed it the biggest and best festival the village has ever seen with a host of musicians taking the stage, a wealth of gourmet food and entertainment on offer and more than 100 stalls lining the surrounding roads.

Christina Nolan, of the Fair Committee, said: “This really was an event for the whole community.

“We are so grateful to everyone who helped make it such a success, including all our sponsors.

“Special thanks must go to our army of local volunteers who manned the barriers, cleared up the litter and made sure everyone was having a great time. We’ve already had people applying for stalls for 2010.”

Children of all ages had a wonderful time with face painting, storytelling and Punch and Judy shows, while the festival’s first dog show was a triumph. The winning entrants included Labradoodle Scruffy, mini Schnauzer Hamish and mini Lurcher Lolly.

Village shopkeeper and fair stallholder Avril Castellazzo said: “I thought the fair was fabulous. I really liked the brightly coloured canopies on the stalls and we have had amazing feedback from all our customers who absolutely loved it.”

The fair’s sponsors included the Ham&High, Camden and Haringey councils, the Red Lion and Sun, Blueorange, Taylor Gibbs, the Old Crown, Cafe Rouge, PetVet, Flutes Wine Bar and Brasserie and a large number of generous residents.
