Dave In Charge has been described as the “worst rapper of all time” by some sections of the media since appearing in the Ham&High last week.

The 25-year-old grandson of Lord and Lady Palmer of Childs Hill, whose real name is David Palmer, has grabbed headlines around the world following the release of rap song Habitat.

Over the last week, David’s name has appeared in the New York Daily News, the Sydney Morning Herald and, most recently, the UK’s Daily Telegraph.

The YouTube video for Dave In Charge’s new single, filmed on Hampstead Heath, has received close to 70,000 views in the last week alone.

So how does the former Jewish Free School pupil, who lives with his parents in The Vale, Golders Green, feel about the media frenzy that has followed his interview with the Ham&High?

“It’s only the media that’s described me as the ‘worst rapper of all time’,” he said. “But the people, you have to give them credit, have listened to the track and commented that they quite like it and expected far worse.

“So actually the negative stuff has really helped me out. I’m thankful for it.”

David’s song received radio airplay on Capital FM yesterday (Wednesday) and he says he has had requests for live performances and other media appearances.

His rise to prominence has also drawn his grandfather, Lord Monroe Palmer, who was made a Lib Dem peer in 2011, and his wife, Lady Susette Palmer, both Childs Hill councillors, into the spotlight.

David insists his grandparents are unfazed by the attention, and his music for that matter.

“I sat down with them the other day and they told me how proud they were of me,” he said.

“They don’t listen to rap. I didn’t directly ask them [if they liked my song] but it’s probably not their thing.”

So with a new album on the way and the global media discussing his credentials, what does the future hold for Dave In Charge?

“I’ve got a fanbase, I’ve received a lot of attention and now I’m going to use the momentum I’ve got to keep going and bring out new music.”
