A woman has been charged with the attempted murder of a child, arson and poisoning after a fire in Belsize Park.

The 43-year-old, of Belsize Park, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Thursday last week (August 28) and will next appear at Blackfriars Crown Court on Tuesday, September 9.

She is accused of attempted murder, arson with intent to endanger life and poisoning with intent to endanger life or inflict grievous bodily harm.

The fire in the early hours of Monday, August 25 gutted a bedroom of a ground-floor flat in a converted house in Belsize Park.

Two fire crews from West Hampstead were called at about 1.15am and had the flames under control shortly after 1.45am.

The London Ambulance Service treated two patients, a woman in her 40s and a seven-year-old girl, for smoke inhalation and minor burns and they were both taken to hospital.

The accused has been remanded into custody until her next court appearance.
