The fire tore through a four-storey house in Wood Lane, Highgate


More than 70 firefighters battled to control a blaze at a four-storey mansion in Wood Lane, Highgate last night.

Ten fire engines rushed to the scene after 19 separate calls to report the fire were logged just before 11pm.

Four people left the property before the crews arrived.

Station Manager Clive Robinson, who was at the scene said: “Ten fire engines and 72 firefighters were called to a fire in a four storey house.

“The whole of the roof was destroyed and half of the second and third floor was badly damaged by fire.

“Our 999 control officers took 19 calls in the very early stages. Four people left the house before the Brigade arrived. Thankfully no one was injured.

“Firefighters carried out salvage operations on neighbouring properties.”

The fire was brought under at around 4.45am.
