Police were called yesterday at 6.10pm to Redhill Street, at the junction with Albany Street, following reports of a car in collision with two pedestrians.

An 87-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman were taken by ambulance to a central London hospital where they remain in a stable condition.

Police say the driver of the car, a man in his 50s, stopped at the scene.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was bailed pending further enquiries.

It is believed the victims were on a pedestrian crossing at the time of the collision.

Police are appealing for witnesses, asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact officers on 020 8842 1817.
