A Harrods executive who suffered from a rare miscarriage that triggered cancer has raised £70,000 by stripping naked for her own calendar to help prevent others experiencing the same heartbreak.

In May 2010 Charlotte Solomon miscarried as a result of a Molar pregnancy, a rare condition that developed into cancer and subjected her to nine months of aggressive chemotherapy instead of pregnancy.

The 34-year-old who lives in Primrose Hill said: “To go from one of the most beautiful moments in life, to the despair of miscarriage, and then the fear of discovering a critical illness, is certainly the most challenging thing I have ever had to deal with.

“Thankfully, in April I was given the ‘all clear’, but only now am I beginning to get my life back.”

She channelled her experience by kick starting a fundraising campaign to research the condition, and convinced 28 female friends to join her in the calendar.

“I couldn’t do anything physical, as I wasn’t up to it yet,” said Mrs Solomon, who is head of media sales at Harrods. “I had worked on photo shoots before, and thought it would be a good way of raising money.

“It wasn’t too difficult convincing my mates to join, as they had all been through the journey with me, and were more than happy to peel off and help out for such a good cause.”

But she was not prepared for the massive response to the appeal.

Between donations on her Just Giving site, and sales of the tastefully shot calendar, Mrs Solomon has already received a huge amount and hopes to see it climb further.

The money is earmarked for the Cancer Treatment & Research Trust and the oncology department at Charing Cross Hospital, where there is a specialised team who monitor and treat Molar pregnancies.

“I am absolutely amazed at the support and am so pleased as it means that the project can get up and running,” she said.

“It is a phenomenal sum to raise in such a short time, and I am so proud of everyone involved.”
