The Conservative Party has selected its candidate to fight next year’s general election in Holborn and St Pancras at which veteran Labour MP Frank Dobson is expected to stand down.

Communications consultant Will Blair, a Kentish Town resident, will stand for the Tories in his home constituency.

The 29-year-old was the clear victor in a ballot of Holborn and St Pancras Conservative Association members at a special general meeting on Thursday.

Mr Blair moved to Camden after university seven years ago, first living in Bloomsbury and then moving to Kentish Town in 2009.

He lives with his partner on Kentish Town High Street and ran unsuccessfully for Highgate ward in May’s local elections.

He said: “I’m so proud and so honoured to have been selected to fight my home constituency – it’s something I’ve wanted to do all my life. Holborn & St Pancras is a very special part of the UK, and I love living here.

“I want to spend the early part of my campaign not talking but listening to all residents from all communities across this constituency about their concerns, their hopes and their aspirations for this area, as we seek to build a fairer society and a fairer community here in Camden.”

Mr Dobson, who has been MP for Holborn and St Pancras since 1979, is expected to confirm his decision to stand down at a constituency party meeting at Camden Town Hall this evening.
