Hornsey and Wood Green MP Catherine West has reacted with bafflement to Boris Johnson’s appointment as Foreign Secretary.

The former London Mayor was a surprise announcement in new Prime Minister Theresa May’s new cabinet.

Following the appointment, Ms West, a Labour shadow foreign minister, took to Twitter to voice her bewilderment.

She said: “I am perplexed that the PM has chosen Boris Johnson to represent us around the world.”

And she added: “(Shadow Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Minister) Emily Thornberry and I are certainly looking forward to taking on Boris Johnson at next Foreign Office Questions.”
