Colin George Smelt, 43, a PC in the Met Police’s Specialist Protection Command, was found with a gunshot injury at a ground floor flat in King’s Terrace last Tuesday.
Officers forced entry to the property just after 4pm after concerns were raised about Mr Smelt but he was pronounced dead at 4.45pm.
A post-mortem examination on Friday found Mr Smelt died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
An inquest into the death was opened at St Pancras Coroner’s Court today and adjourned until a date to be fixed pending further enquiries.
