Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate Maajid Nawaz has received unlikely support from the frontman of a famed Norwegian pop group ahead of next year’s general election contest in Hampstead and Kilburn.

Morten Harket, lead singer of Grammy Award-nominated band A-ha, has revealed he was inspired to write his new solo single Brother after reading Mr Nawaz’s memoir Radical.

The book charts Mr Nawaz’s journey from Islamic extremist to co-founder of counter-extremism think tank, Quilliam.

He said: “The core message in my memoir Radical is about bringing people together around liberal humanism, and challenging extremists of all shades who would seek to divide us.

“Few industries help to unite people more than music. I am deeply honoured therefore that Radical inspired Morten’s title-track Brother, and I hope his lyrics inspire others to come together, for likewise, he is a brother of mine.”
