Rumours of a space invasion were rife as astronauts mysteriously cropped up in Tube stations and parks on Tuesday (January 9) - before it was revealed that it was part of a Lynx bodyspray campaign to send one lucky man or woman into space.

Early morning commuters stopped in their tracks as more than 20 spacemen marched up Primrose Hill – echoing a scene from War Of The Worlds.

And those taking the Tube to work were astonished to find themselves sitting next to galactic cowboys wearing full oxygen masks and white suits.

One astronaut even made dog walking look otherworldy by strolling along the hill with his pet pooch in tow.

Royal Parks, which manages Primrose Hill, had not been contacted about the stunt and Transport for London had not heard anything about visitors from another realm.

Twitter was afire with conspiracy theories, mulling on everything from NASA training to a TV advert.

Fashion designer Henry Holland, who was also mystified, wrote on Twitter: “Whilst training at sunrise on Primrose Hill there were 20 astronauts in full suits just wandering about.’’
