Music journalist Charles Shaar Murray cleared out his cupboards and donated a horde of books, music and DVDs to a West Hampstead market.
The former NME writer, 62, who lives in the area, peddled the goods to Christmas shoppers at West Hampstead Community Market, based in the forecourt of the Thameslink station, in Iverson Road, on Sunday.
He also sold a couple of collectors’ items, including a first edition vinyl of a Joey Ramone solo album, at the new weekly market.
He said: “I wanted to make a contribution to my community, as it is one of the few places that is genuinely artist-friendly.
“West Hampstead has an artistic tradition, with the late Doris Lessing having lived in Gondar Gardens, and The Railway pub, in Broadhurst Gardens, where many great blues and jazz musicians used to play.”
