A huge fire burning at a building in Marylebone has been brought under control.

Fire crews from five stations – Soho, Paddington, Kentish Town, North Kensington and West Hampstead - tackled the blaze on the third floor and roof of the end of terrace building in Upper Wimpole Street.

In total six fire engines and 35 firefighters were at the scene of the fire which broke out just before 12.30pm with emergency services taking more than 40 calls to report it.

According to a London Fire Brigade spokeswoman no people were inside. The fire was under control just after 2pm.

People are being advised to avoid the area with residents and businesses advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area.

The cause is under investigation.
