Journalist Lynn Barber will discuss her new book, A Curious Career, at the Proms at St Jude's LitFest later this month

Archant

Volunteer Lynn Michaelson previews the scintillating line-up of author’s at this year’s Proms at St Jude’s LitFest.

With a rich mix of fiction and non-fiction authors, paired with insightful interviewers, the Proms LitFest generates stimulating and entertaining conversations, as well as giving visitors the chance to pose their own questions.

Great War historian Richard van Emden will be discussing his new book, Tommy’s War: The Western Front in Soldiers’ Words and Photographs, including the humour, often very dark, which was vital to the men’s mental survival.

On a lighter note, Itamar Srulovich and Sarit Packer, of Honey & Co, the Middle Eastern restaurant in Fitzrovia, will discuss Honey & Co – Food from the Middle East, their new collection of recipes, which is full of warmth and imagination like the restaurant.

For those who share Lynn Barber’s compelling sense of nosiness, her discussion of her new book, A Curious Career, is sure to be rewarding, taking us from those early years as a journalist at Penthouse to her more eminent role interrogating a huge cross-section of people in the public eye.

Novelists Sathnam Sanghera and Charlotte Mendelson will delight fans of fiction, discussing their novels Marriage Material, the story of three generations of a family and Almost English, a deliciously funny tale of dysfunctional families.

Other speakers include Phyllida Law, Hugh Pym, Brigid Keenan and Edna O’Brien. A heady mix indeed.

If you come early, you are likely to find the speakers mingling informally in our buzzy LitFest cafe.

LitFest will be held on Saturday, June 21, from 11am-6pm, and on Sunday, June 22, from 12.30pm-6pm. Tickets are £9.
