The senior coroner for inner north London Mary Hassell is set to hold a public consultation into the new policy for how she should deal with deaths in the area, but has only given people a matter of days to send in written submissions.

The senior coroner for inner north London Mary Hassell is set to hold a public consultation into the new policy for how she should deal with deaths in the area, but has only given people a matter of days to send in written submissions.

A meeting on July 5 will form part of a wider consultation into the new policy, after the previous ‘cab-rank’ arrangement was ruled unlawful at a High Court hearing on April 27.

However in an email on June 19 advertising the consultation, she initially gave people who can’t make the meeting two days to make written submissions.

However after being contacted by this newspaper, it has been extended to Monday June 25.

She had previously faced criticism from the Jewish and Muslim communities in Camden, Hackney, Islington and Tower Hamlets for not prioritising burials.

Both religions believe that a body should be buried as soon as possible after death.

The meeting will take place at Camden Town Hall’s council chamber on Thursday July 5.

The meeting will begin at 6pm.

Anybody who wants to make a written submission should post their thoughts to St Pancras Coroner’s Court, Camley Street, London, N1C 4PP.
