Profile Lazzaro Pietragnoli

Lazzaro Pietragnoli, 42, is a journalist who lives with his wife and son in Primrose Hill.

He has been active in the Primrose Hill Community Association and campaigned to save Primrose Hill Community Library.

Policies:

- Campaigned against High Speed 2 rail link, which he says places national economic questions ahead of the needs of Camden residents.

Instead of terminating at Euston, Mr Pietragnoli wants it to terminate on the outskirts of London.

- He wants to improve security and tackle anti-social behaviour in Camden Town.

Of his campaign, he said last month: “I’m not a professional politician. I’ve never run for the council before and I think I will be an honest voice for the local people.”

Labour candidate Lazzaro Pietragnoli received 1,847 votes - far more than nearest rival Conservative candidate Nigel Rumble, who received 823 votes.

The Conservatives beat the Liberal Democrats into second place with Lib Dem candidate Chris Richards receiving 748 votes.

At the last local elections for the Camden Town & Primrose Hill ward in 2010, Labour won the highest share of the vote with 36.37 per cent.

The Liberal Democrats were in second place with 30.72 per cent and the Conservatives in third place with 21.41 per cent.

The Camden Town & Primrose Hill by-election was triggered when Labour Cllr Thomas Neumark announced his intention to step down to move to Washington DC, where his wife works as an economist for the World Bank.

Mr Pietragnoli joins Labour Cllr Pat Callaghan and Liberal Democrat Cllr Chris Naylor in representing Camden Town & Primrose Hill ward.

2012 by-election results:

Lazzaro Pietragnoli – Labour: 1,847 (46.6%)

Nigel Rumble – Conservative: 823 (20.8%)

Chris Richards – Liberal Democrat: 748 (18.9%)

Peter Lyons - Green: 450 (11.3%)
