Supermodel Kate Moss turns 40 today and to celebrate the big day, we look back at some of her early photos when she was a fresh-faced teenager plucked from the streets of south-east London and some of her more iconic photos.

It felt like the 30-fags-a-day waif who claimed ‘nothing tastes as good as skinny feels’ would never get old but, alas, even Mossy had to hit the big 4-0 eventually.

It seems like just yesterday she was hanging out with the Primrose Hill set of Noel Gallagher, Sadie Frost and Jude Law or plastered on the tabloid pages with Johnny Depp.

She’s had her fair share of controversy – drugs and badboy suitors - but we’d like to forget all that and wish Croydon’s finest export a very happy birthday.

The model rarely gives interviews but has spoken about the toll her work took on her, especially in her early years in the industry.

She told Vanity Fair she had a nervous breakdown while she was still a teenager while working on a campaign for Calvin Klein in the early 1990s.

But Moss recovered and her career has gone from strength to strength. Earlier this year she posed in bunny ears for the cover of Playboy magazine.

She featured in 18 pages of the January/February issue of the racy magazine, as well as the cover, to celebrate her forthcoming birthday.
