Highgate farmers’ market organisers are encouraging more community gardeners and allotment groups to get in touch to sell their produce

All the stalls sold out of their fruit, vegetables, meat and pastries at the launch of the Highgate Village Market, held at St Michael’s Primary School on Saturday.

Clare Leach, who is organising the market with her sister-in-law Amanda Leach, said: “It was fantastic. For the whole four hours we were open, it was full up the whole time.”

Comedian Mark Dolan cut the ribbon to open the market and there was live music from busker Rupert Caneyas, as well as 26 stalls attending.

Funds raised from the market will go towards St Michael’s school.

Clare has a seven-year-old and ten-year-old at St Michael’s, and Amanda went to the primary school.

Greens of Highgate sold fruit and vegetables at the market and Highgate Honey will join later, but the organisers wish to encourage more local businesses to get involved.

This includes any allotment group or gardening collective.

Clare and Amanda Leach also organise the arts and crafts section of the Crouch End Festival market at Christmas and in the summer.
