The Lib Dems’ new shadow cabinet will bring a wealth “of professional and life experience” to their roles, the group’s leader has promised.
Cllr Sarah Elliott, who took up the position of leader earlier this month, unveiled the new roles on Tuesday, with each of the borough’s nine Liberal Democrats becoming a spokesman effectively shadowing a cabinet member role.
So Highgate councillor Liz Morris will take on Ann Waters, covering children’s services, while Alexandra’s Cllr Dave Beacham will take on housing - and Cllr Strickland - as well as his role as whip.
Cllr Viv Ross, who represents Fortis Green, will take on social inclusion, held by Cllr Joe Goldberg. Ward colleague Cllr Martin Newton will lead on communities and policing, shadowing Labour deputy leader Cllr Bernice Vanier.
Cllr Bob Hare will be spokesperson on parks and regeneration reflecting his past work as a tree specialist. Highgate colleague Clive Carter will take on arts, culture and leisure - standing opposite Labour Crouch End councillor Jason Arthur.
New councillor Pippa Connor will use her experiences as a cancer nurse to tackle health issues as the health and wellbeing spokesman, held by fellow new councillor Peter Morton in the cabinet.
Lib Dem deputy leader Gail Engert will act as the spokesperson on urban environment, taking on Cllr Stuart McNamara, while Cllr Elliott will be facing both Labour leader Claire Kober and Cllr Goldberg with her focus on corporate issues and finance.
Cllr Elliott said: “I am delighted to have such a strong team of spokespeople. They bring a lot of professional and life experience with them to their new roles.
“I am confident they will do a brilliant job of challenging the Labour cabinet whilst also putting forward the Liberal Democrat vision for the borough.”
