Highgate Harriers must wait until next month to defend their South of England crown after the annual cross country championships fell victim to the freezing weather.

The race, which was won by Harriers’ men’s team last year for the first time in their history, had been due to go ahead this Saturday (January 26) at Parliament Hill.

Following discussions with the City of London Corporation, South of England Athletics Association officials decided to postpone the event due to concerns about the ground conditions.

But the race has now been rescheduled for Saturday February 16, and Martin Howard, chairman of the SEAA cross country committee, said: “We are pleased that these traditional championships will continue at Parliament Hill.

“Revised arrangements are in hand and we hope that as many as possible will be able to make the new date.”
